AARCE совместно с представительтвом Росзарубежцентра в Вашингтоне объявляют конкурс детских сочинений "Моя семья".

В рамках Олимпиады по русскому языку AARCE.org и представительство Росзарубежцентра объявляют конкурс на лучшее детское сочинение "Моя семья". Конкурс приурочен к объявленному в России Году семьи.

Участниками конкурса могут быть дети от 6 до 16 лет из семей российских соотечественников, проживающих на территории Соединённых Штатов Америки.
- на конкурс принимаются сочинения объемом до 4 страниц (разлинованные 8,5" х 11", поля слева);
- работы принимаются только в рукописном виде;
- на титульном листе указать: полное имя участника, день рождения, почтовый адрес, телефон, адрес электронной почты;
- на конверте сделать пометку "Сочинение";
- работы направлять по адресу:

- последний срок подачи сочинений - 12 мая 2008 (по почтовому штемпелю на конверте);

Присланные работы будут оцениваться жюри, состоящим как из российских, так и американских филологов-русистов.
- работы будут оцениваться по четырем возрастным категориям участников (6-7, 8-10, 11-13, 14-16 лет);
- при оценивании работ жюри будет обращать внимание на глубину содержания, словарный запас и самостоятельность выполнения;
- просим обратить внимание на академическую честность: дети пишут сами;

Победители конкурса будут объявлены в Международный День Защиты Детей - 1-го июня - вместе с вручением грамот, памятных подарков и книг о России.
- участники получат это сообщение по адресу их электронной почты;
- все участники с серьезными намерениями получают сертификат об участии в конкурсе;
- победители награждаются подарками и грамотами от имени AARCE и Розрарубежцентра;
- лучшие работы будут опубликованы в газете "Русская Америка";
- занявшие первые места получат возможность поехать летом 2008 года в двухнедельный русский лагерь во Франции (в лагерь могут поехать дети 10-16 лет)

Address by H.E. Yuri V. Ushakov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the USA to the participants of the Essay contest “Russia, its language and culture in my life”

Dear friends,

This year will be very special for all of you who learn and love Russian – the language of Pushkin, Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, the language of the first man in space, the language spoken in a land of rich history, culture and traditions. President Vladimir Putin has proclaimed 2007 as the «Year of Russian Language in the World», meaning that dozens of festivals, concerts, exhibitions and presentations will be held around the world, all dedicated to our language.
On February 7, 2007, the program was launched in the United States. As its part, the Russian Cultural Center in Washington, D.C. has announced an essay contest «Russia, its Language and Culture in My Life» to be held in partnership with the Russian Embassy and the American Councils for International Education. A specially selected board of judges will pick 20 finalists, who will go on to compete for the grand prize – an exciting trip to Russia to meet with other contest winners from over 70 countries.
Our goal is to hear from those of you who see their Russian classes not just as an item on the curriculum, but also as a means of getting to know our unique and diverse country. By participating in the contest, you will broaden your knowledge and help our mutual efforts to attain a better understanding and interaction between our nations.

“Russia, its language and culture in my life” : Essay Contest

The Russian Cultural Centre in Washington DC, the Embassy of the Russian Federation and the American Council of Teachers of Russian (ACTR) are pleased to announce an International Essay Contest.

The International Russian Essay Contest is a major international writing event for students and learners of Russian at all levels, held in conjunction with the offical "Year of the Russian Language" observance around the globe. Grand prize winners from each participating country will take part in a celebration in Moscow in the fall of 2007. The contest will also recognize finalists in each of the major contest categories at a special ceremony in Washington, hosted by the Russian Cultural Centre and ACTR.

In the United States the Embassy of the Russian Federation, in collaboration with ACTR, will administer the contest on the topic "Russia - its language and culture in my life." Russian Ambassador Yury Viktorovich Ushakov will serve as Chair of the contest, with Vice-Chairs Dr. James H. Billington, Librarian of Congress, and Dr.Dan E.Davidson, President of American Councils for International Education, and a group of leading American teachers and specialists in Russian field, professional writers and journalists also serving on the jury.

Students of Russian at the pre-college, undergraduate, post-graduate, or professional level are invited to submit essays in Russian of no more than 500 words. Submissions including full contact information should be received by July 15, with awards announced after August 15.
